Zombie Grammar

The Zombie Grammar Chase is a game-based ESL grammar review activity that asks students to answer multiple-choice grammar questions while “escaping” a pursuing group of zombies. Students must answer three questions correctly in a row within a grammar category to advance. A wrong answer resets progress in the current category, and three consecutive incorrect answers across the game result in game over.

The question bank covers 20 grammar areas, including parts of speech, nouns, pronouns, articles and determiners, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, subject–verb agreement, verb tenses, modal verbs, question formation, negation, gerunds and infinitives, passive voice, conditionals, clauses, and sentence structure. Categories and questions are shuffled each time the game begins, creating varied practice across repeated attempts.

After every response, students receive immediate corrective feedback and a brief explanation of the grammar rule. The activity is well suited for independent review, learning stations, cumulative grammar practice, enrichment, or an engaging end-of-unit challenge, particularly when students need repeated retrieval practice across a broad range of grammar concepts.
