The Verb Blaster is an arcade-style ESL grammar game designed to build students’ ability to recognize and produce correct English verb forms in context. A sentence with a missing verb falls down the screen while the base verb is displayed as a clue. Students choose among four possible forms of that verb, move beneath their answer, and fire before the sentence reaches the bottom.
Practice begins with base forms, third-person singular forms, and present participles, then progressively introduces regular past tense, future with will, infinitives, irregular past forms, regular and irregular past participles, present perfect, and past perfect. Each sentence provides four answer choices, encouraging students to distinguish among competing conjugations of the same verb rather than simply recognize unrelated vocabulary.
Students earn 100 points for correct answers and begin with three lives. Every 1,000 points unlocks a more advanced verb-form category, while the falling speed increases as the student progresses. The game is well suited for independent practice, learning stations, verb-form review, enrichment, or reinforcement after tense instruction, combining contextual grammar practice with rapid retrieval and repeated exposure.
