The Word Asteroids game is an interactive English–Spanish vocabulary activity designed to build rapid noun recognition and translation skills. Spanish nouns appear on incoming meteors while three possible English translations are displayed as answer choices. Students rotate their ship, select the matching English word, and fire before the meteor reaches the center of the screen.
Teachers can target specific vocabulary themes—including family, school, home, food, clothing, animals, transportation, technology, community, and everyday objects—or select Mixed Galaxy for practice across the complete 300-word noun bank. Correct responses build points and answer streaks, while the game gradually increases meteor speed after sustained success, providing an adaptive challenge as students improve.
At the end of each game, students receive a score, number of words identified correctly, accuracy percentage, and best streak. Words that were missed are automatically collected into a bilingual review list for additional study. The activity is well suited for beginning ESL learners, independent practice, learning stations, vocabulary review, or reinforcement after thematic vocabulary instruction.
